A language can be simply described as a human communication method. It can either be written or spoken and consists of words which are arranged in a predictable manner. One of the most widely and commonly used language worldwide is English.
Early medieval England was one of the first places where this West Germanic language was spoken. Since then, English has gone on the become the 3rd most common native language to over 360 million in countries such as England, the United States, Canada, Australia among many others. It’s also the official language in over 65 countries and 27 non-sovereign organizations which include United Nations, International Criminal Court and European Union etc. The highest percentage of countries that use English as their official language were former British colonies.
It’s of importance for persons who have ambitions of working or networking globally to learn the English language because of various reasons e.g.
It’s the world’s media language and can be understood by almost all scholars or anyone who is educated. English words pronunciations and their simple meanings can be globally understood by many people. What makes this language easy to learn and quickly understand is the fact that it uses Latin alphabet. The alphabets are universal, short and simple to understand coming only second to the Greek Alphabet which is much shorter and simpler. Latin alphabets are easy to present and consist of only 26 basic letters with no diacritics.
To conclude the consideration of English as the universal language is an added advantage to us speakers who consider the language as the simplest and sweetest. It’s good to remember that this were not the factors that led the language to this condition.
